About Me
My name is Dale Boyer, and I am the founder of Better Outside.
Growing up, I spent countless hours outside enjoying nature. In the little creek that runs through my family’s backyard I would catch small minnows and crawdads that darted about, build dams to create pools and waterfalls, float sticks from one side of the little footbridge to the other, break the ice with rocks when it froze over, and sometimes just sit to observe the water flowing past. I would climb trees nearby and see birds flitting past, singing back and forth to each other. My sister and I would dig massive mud pits just for the fun of it, and end up caked in dirt from head to toe each time. At the lake down the street from our house, my best friend and I would spend whole afternoons catching little sunfish, wading out to find the best spot to cast to. My dad would take me biking on trails all around Boulder county, and I would get to ride through beautiful aspen groves, grassy meadows, rocky slopes and tall pine forests. My mom would take me on hikes and point out the birds of prey soaring over us with their keen eyes scouring the ground for prairie dogs, rabbits and squirrels.
As I continued to age, I maintained my connection to nature.
