About Me

My name is Dale Boyer, and I am the founder of Better Outside.

Apart from being 6 feet 3 inches tall, which can serve as my foremost identifying characteristic, I also pride myself in being friendly, extroverted, and personable, as well as a lover of sports, fishing, board/card games, and fresh chocolate chip cookies. After recently graduating from Boulder High School, I am currently taking a gap year, during which time I am working, making plans to travel, studying the Psychology of Sustainability, and looking forward to college in the fall.

At age 12, I wrote a poem about my identity and where I had come from, as an assignment in middle school. It captures the essence of who I am, from the traditions that my family had growing up, to the food I loved, to the places I visited, to my connections with family and friends.

I Am From

By Dale Boyer

I am from bacon, pancakes, and eggs to peanut butter and honey with no bananas,

I am from digging a hole to China with my sister,

Somehow always only making it about four feet down.

I am from swishing three-pointers to scoring goals,

From layout catches to ripping line drives for singles.

I am from grandpas lakehouse in Texas,

From waking up early to get out on the water.

From hot off the griddle to cold leftovers.

I am from getting smoothies after every soccer game to winter french toast on Christmas morning,

I am from ā€œYah Babyā€ to ā€œFinish Itā€,

From pedaling up that last hill,

An all-consuming ache in my legs.

I am from my little spiderman fishing rod,

From catching bluegills off of the dock.

From making Annie's Mac and Cheese all by myself.

I am from scraped knees to wasp stings,

From a concussion to stitches in my hand.

I am from swimming in the creek,

The ice-cold water chilling my blood.

I am from dinner at Gragra’s,

Beforehand playing basketball versus my dad in her driveway,

With her ringing a bell every time one of us scores.

I am from my best friend Mason,

Whom I connected with during kindergarten nap time,

I am from baby chickens,

So soft and fragile,

Tiny living animals in the palms of my hands.

I am from baby bunnies,

From one-eyed ducks,

From Martin and Cody Ginger.

I am from Sweden to the Adirondacks,

From the Galapagos to California,

From the Rocky Mountains.

From Kaden and Eli,

The three of us forming an inseparable bond.

I am from orphan goats,

Bottle feeding is the highlight of my day.

I am from my thinking rock at Wildwood,

From reeling in another trout at the caretakers' pond.

This is where I’m from.
